Sleeve Bearing

Bearings contain the relative motion between two parts. The motion can be rotational or linear. According to loads handled, the design and size, there are different types of bearing which suits the purpose of varied machineries. One of the types of bearings is rotary bearing. It is used in vehicle axles, shafts as well as clock parts. Sleeve bearing is the simplest of the rotary bearing which is available.

The sleeve bearing is inserted between axle and the wheel. In other roller bearings the sleeve is replaced with several cylindrical rollers, where each behaves as though it is a single wheel. The sleeve bearings are usually less loud and also produce less high- frequency sound than ball bearings which is also used for smooth motion in wheels.

The sleeve bearing is used in fan as well. These fans are mostly the ones that are used to cool the system and protect it from meltdown. Bearing type used in the fan plays a crucial part in determining the functional reliability of the fans. Engineer must choose right bearing so that the application is perfect. Some of the aspects that one should keep look at, when choosing the bearing is mounting, parts, cost, and fan longevity, noise, lubrication issues and the pint contact versus the line.

There are available in the market plastic sleeve bearings as well. There are four types of such bearings with different characteristics in the compensation gap, the contraction, environmental factors, etc. One also needs to keep in mind where the bearing will be used, what are the weather conditions and the temperature of the place where the bearing will be placed.

Some of the sleeve bearings have the outer sleeve of carbon steel and there is also a circumferential groove for lubrication. One can also order those which have nickel plated outer sleeves. It can be used in mildly corrosive areas. Different sizes of such sleeve bearings are sold in the market. Depending on where the bearing will be put one should buy sleeve bearings.

There are available in the market non-metallic plastic sleeve bearing as well as metallic bearings.  It is recommended to take an experts’ opinion in order to fix the bearing choice and others. If possible one should study the features in detail and match it up with the equipment necessity. The costs vary according as par the material used and quality of the bearing as well as its longevity.
